We have been pretty lucky so far with the weather here in Ottawa this winter season. But we need to remember that winter in Canada can take a turn for the worse at any time and our homes should be prepared.
Here are a few tips that will keep you safe and warm during the colder days ahead:
-Install proper insulation, weather stripping, storm windows
-Water lines running along exterior walls should be insulated
-Gutters should be clean of any debris, leaves etc.
-Roof leaks should be dealt with immediately
We tend to spend more time inside our homes during the winter months so please make sure you take the proper precautions:
-Have your heating system checked by a professional to make sure it is clean and ventilating properly
-Have chimney cleaned and inspected regularly if using on a regular basis to prevent fire
-Change batteries in smoke detectors and test them once a month
-Have CO detector installed to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning
